Ridley Ridley

Hi,
My new parents brought me home from the shelter last week, and I've been having a ball (lots of them) in my new home. I have enclosed a pic of me settling down for an afternoon snooze in my new favorite nap spot. Thank you to all the wonderful folks at the shelter who made it possible for me to have a great new home!

Regards,

Ridley

Bach Bach

My name is Megan and I am married with two children. We are all dog lovers and have occasionally had animals around the house. After having a wonderful puppy taken from us, our family was on the lookout for another puppy to love. With two young boys at home, we decided as a family, to visit our local animal shelter and rescue a puppy. We looked at several puppies and a couple of adult dogs but none compared to the nervous looking German Shephard mix pup (later named Bach). When we took him to the visitation room, he became more calm and even started cuddling with the boys. It was an instant match with all of us. When I took the boys to go pick him up a couple of days later, Bach jumped in the back to sit right between both of the kids booster seats. He is a perfect fit to our family. He runs with my husband, plays with the boys and their friends, and is always within eye shot of me or my husband. We could not have asked for a better dog. People are right when they say that pound puppies are forever friends.

Cookie Cookie

This Friday, will be one year ago we got "Cookie", our black lab mix at the animal shelter in Land O'Lakes. I have three sons, that was the name they chose for her. Cookie has been such a great blessing to our lives. She is a GREAT dog, full of life, energy and FUN! We "decided", since we don't know her EXACT date of birth, we celebrated her 1st birthday this year on New Year's Day! She was immediately accepted into the family by everyone, except our 8 year old cat, Princess... It took longer than we thought (about 4 months) before they got along, but now... They are BEST buddies! Cookie has been fully potty trained since within a week of coming home. She was in a crate during the day for about 4 months. We decided to "try" her out of the kennel one day, and she has been out ever since! She used to sleep on the floor at the foot of our bed, and somehow, it has ended up, she gets more of my own bed than I do... And when I try to move her, she huffs at me! We have alot of fun going for walks, and to the pet store for new toys. I would DEFINITELY recommend to ANYONE getting a dog or cat from Animal Services. They are in need of loving homes, and they DEFINITELY deserve them, and I think, they treat YOU as if you are their hero.

THANK YOU!!!

The Faltraco Family

My husband and I found our newest addition on Petfinder after our 9 year old bulldog passed away. We had known for a long time that our next dog would be a rescue, with so many of them out there needing good homes, it was a no brainer! I searched Petfinder almost daily and on St. Patrick's Day 2011, there he was! I went to the shelter that day and he was home with us less than a week later. He was never fearful or had any of the "puppy anxiety" that we had experienced in the past - he walked in our home just like he was coming home. He has filled a hole that was left in our hearts and made our house a home again. Thank you Petfinder, you did not just save Bailey, you saved us too!

Boomer Boomer

Five years ago I had to have my 15 year old poodle mix put down, and the following year our 14 year old English Lab had congestive heart failure and couldn't be saved. It was so heart breaking to lose a best friend, and then a year later to the month lose another.

At the time, our son was very young and adopting another dog was just not something we were ready to do. My son has been asking for a dog to be part of our family. I had been praying about it for several months and for no apparent reason two weeks ago today I looked at the Pasco Animal Services sight and saw "Jack". He appeared to be a smaller breed, short hair and two years old. My son wanted him right away. We made the trip to the animal services new facility and couldn't believe that he was still available and ready to be adopted. We were encouraged, due to our sons age, to consider a puppy to adopt. After viewing a couple of the available puppies I still felt drawn to meet "Jack". When I walked past his enclosure there was just something there in those eyes. I felt he would be such a perfect fit for our family.

We adopted "Jack" and renamed him Boomer. He is a fantastic little dog. Huge heart, very playful, housebroke, and easily trainable. Since we've had him he knows sit, shake and is being trained to lay down on command. He enjoys spending time with my son playing and following him around. I am so thankful we found him, or he found us. I knew I wanted another dog in our family, but didn't realize how much we were missing out by not having Boomer.

My son and Boomer are companions constantly, my son is learning training skills and participating in the care and nurturing of Boomer as well. I would certainly encourage any one looking for a pet to visit the Animal Services and find their loved one.

My vet told me i'm very playful and that i'm lucky to have Kelsey as a owner! I never get in trouble and i just learned a new trick - sit. I love to jump on the trampoline and follow my owner Kelsey everywhere she goes :)
Thanks PCAS for placing me with this family!

Bandit Bandit

My boyfriend and I noticed that my four year old male cat was lonely. We wanted him to have a companion to play with since he has had at least one his whole life. We were looking for a kitten for months. So my friend told me to go to Pasco County Animal Shelter. That's where we found "Bandit." A three month old Short Hair Domestic female kitten. Shes a precious purring machine. When she plays, she plays hard. Shes the most upbeat cat I've ever owned. She was definitely worth the trips to the Animal Shelter. She has marking along her body that resemble a wild cat. I'm happy with my decision. I couldn't of picked a better animal or a better place than "Bandit" at PCAS. Thank you for all your love and care that you placed upon our bundle of fur. We will most certainly recommend other to adopt there. Thank you again.

Proud owner of Bandit

Beaumont Beaumont

Hello my name is Beaumont (aka Beau), I’m a 10 week old Akita/Boxer mix that has found my forever home. I have a couple of roommates that don’t really like to play as much as I do (they are CATS) but I do have another dog, Cheyenne who loves to play tug of war with me. My new family crates me at night and when they are not home, which keeps me out of trouble and I am working hard on potty training. I did have one oops, but my new Mommy was slow getting her slippers to take me out. Oh I forgot….I think I may have moved them. We did have one small set back because Beau sounds an awful lot like “No” which was confusing for me. My family is now using my full name and I have started to learn sit, come, and stay/back. I also like helping with the yard work, my new mommy rakes the leaves in our fenced yard and I jump into the pile looking for pinecones, she won’t let me bring them in though. Time to go, a car ride for a trip to the dog park for Cheyenne and I. I’m hoping I don’t get so excited I tinkle where I shouldn’t.

Regards,

Beaumont

Daisey Daisey

A little over 1 month ago we stopped into Pasco County Animal Services just to "look" for a second dog to add to our family. It didn't take long before we locked eyes on Daisey and decided on her almost immediately! Daisey was brought in the shelter as a stray and is approximately 1 to 1 1/2 years of age. We decided to make her birthday February 14 since she is a complete sweetheart! Both of our kids , ages 5 + 8, fell in love with her the moment we brought her home as did we:) She gets along very well with her new sister Molly, a 10 yr. old Australian Shepard mix and we think Molly really enjoys her company and youthfulness. She loves to go on long walks/runs/hikes. Daisey has really come out of her shell in the short time we have had her and is a GREAT addition to our family and fits right in ! We are so happy she found us and look forward to explore more in our journey with her!!!!

Thank You PCAS!!

Sincerely, The Klar Family

Bella Bella

I’ve had Bella with me for a little over a month. As you can see, she has pretty much taken over my house, my favorite chair and a large chunk of my heart. She’s very active around the house. She loves to explore the closets and any other nook or cranny available. A favorite game of hers seems to be to hide under the furniture and swat at your ankles when you sit down. She loves to sit in the windows or out on the screen porch and watch the world around her. Even though the previous owner had her de-clawed, I bought her a scratching post. Several times a day she will use it to scratch or stretch on or just play with the toy on it. She is a most welcome addition to my family, and I believe we’ll have a long and happy life together. Thank you for bringing her into my life.

Molly Molly

My wife and I had been considering a dog for some time and after many conversations we decided to take a drive to the Central Pasco Animal Shelter. We have never adopted a pet before, but wanted to see what was there. We could have taken them all if we had the room, but decided on a Shepherd mix who we named Molly.

What a great choice she has been! She fit right into our home and has become the spoiled little friend we had talked about all those months.

I would recommend the shelter to anyone who is thinking about a pet. There are animals who just need a good home and someone to love them, and the service at the shelter was great! They are very knowledgeable, courteous and take very good care of the animals there.

Thanks again for Molly, we’re very happy we have her!

Sincerely,
Jay & Jennifer Ohmannn
Katie Katie

Katie is a Rottweiler mix I adopted in January of 2007 from the shelter on Lake Patience Road as a 9 week old puppy. She was already close to 16 pounds. She had a heart murmur and kennel cough. The kennel cough cleared up after coming home with me but she unfortunately has not grown out of her heart murmur. She didn't like being left alone while I was at work and became destructive. I tried a number of things, including day care, and she became fine on her own. She loves life and is the sweetest dog, full of energy and always ready for a game of frisbee, her favorite. I hope her story inspires someone who is considering surrendering their dog because of behavioral issues to perservere and have patience. You will be richly rewarded; I know I have been.

Snoopy Snoopy

"We had to put our last dog to sleep 2 years ago. Since then, we have been doing a lot of traveling and decided we would wait until we were finished traveling before getting another dog. My husband died on March 29, 2009. Since his death, I have been extremely sad and lonely and really felt like I needed something around my big empty house besides me, so I started looking on-line for a dog. I really wanted to adopt a dog from a shelter or rescue. I visited the Pasco County Shelter on a Saturday and saw Snoopy. Since I have been so unsure about everything in my life since my husband died, I wasn't sure about Snoopy so I didn't take him home but I thought about him everyday after I saw him. When I checked on-line again on Monday his picture was gone and I thought that he was adopted. I checked the site everyday and on Thursday there was Snoopy's picture again. Thursday night I went to Pet Smart and bought everything I thought I would need to bring Snoopy home on Friday. I went to the Shelter directly from work on Friday, May 8th and brought Snoopy home. Snoopy has been so good. He is playful and loving. He has not had any accidents in the house and I have not crated him while at work all day. When I asked the Shelter why his picture was removed from the site, they said that he was adopted and brought back. The people who returned him said that their daughter was allergic. In my eyes, Snoopy was meant to be my dog and I am so happy to have him as my little buddy. The Vets guess that he is a Schnauzer-Poodle mix and approximately 3 yrs old." - Linda

Cocoa Cocoa

On April 29,2009,we were very fortunate to find our new dog at the Humane Sociey. For 43 years my husband and I have always had more than one dog. In the past year we buried a 14 year old and the beginning of April, a 15 year old. That left a very lonely 5 year old mini-dachshund.

We knew we had to find her a new friend so we adopted her a girl friend. When we went into the puppy area there was an extremely timid 6 month old chocolate lab mix. She was so timid that the people at the shelter called her Shy-Lo. She had to be carried out to the car and then carried into our home.

Long story shortened----she is so good. Someone loved this girl and spent a lot of time with her. She sits, gives her paw, fetches and returns tennis balls beside the the fact that she is housebroken.

I hope the people that had to give her up reads this and knows the "Cocoa" is very happy with her girl friend "Rascal" and is very much loved

Thank you Humane Society

Charlie Charly

We may never know the true circumstances that put Charly's life at the hands of inconceivable cruelty. He cannot tell us. What we know is that he arrived at the shelter with multiple stab wounds to his body, and a sad, tired look in his eyes. But weeks have passed, and Charly has moved on. His spotted coat has grown back over his healed wounds and he is ready to return to a life of romps and rolls in grassy fields and human companionship. Charly's only request of us now - a family, and a lifetime of love and trust. Charly has been adopted, please see more of his story here: Charly's story

Scarlett Scarlett

The American Pit Bull Terrier was once touted the All-American Family Dog. Scarlett proudly wears that crown. She has shown a comfortable, gentle demeanor around children and a confident, playful charm befitting her southern name.We last saw Scarlett peacefully resting in her kennel after a hard training and play session of sit, stay and fetch. Surely she knows that "Tomorrow is another day"... and that her "Tara" is somewhere just around the bend. We are happy to report that Scarlett has been adopted!

Penney Penny

A penny saved is a penny earned...and this Penney is worth a million! A well-behaved adult lab mix, Penney is affectionate, active and loves people and other dogs. She's in her element in the great outdoors and expresses unreserved enthusiasm exploring the water pool and chasing tennis balls at the shelter's "Spree" exercise facility. Penney would love to spend her life with an active, loving family. We are happy to report that our Penney has been adopted!

Juno Juno

Juno is a 3-5 year old Catahoula Mix who is very loving, affectionate, very playful, intelligent and sociable. She had been adopted once but was returned within two months due to playing too rough with other pets. Since then she had been patiently waiting for a permanent home for over 3 months and was again adopted this time into a forever home.

Cinnabun Cinnabun

Cinnabun is a 2-3 year old female Floppy-Ear Rabbit. She is gentle, calm, easy going, friendly and loves to have her head scratched. To say she was released by her owners is an understatement. Cinnabun's owners arrived at PCAS and bluntly stated if she was not taken in right away then they would shoot her. She was immediately accepted by PCAS and released by the owners. Cinnabun was adopted by a forever home two weeks later.

Sweetie Sweetie

Sweetie is a female Pekingese whose age was estimated to be well over 10 years old. She is very affectionate, gentle, obedient, calm and loves to cuddle. She came to PCAS as a stray and given her age, her chance of being adopted did not look promising. However, during an adoption event she was briefly introduced on a local TV station and her popularity soared. Her new owner and forever home waited 5 hours to be the first to adopt her.

Beauty Beauty

Beauty is a 3-5 year old female Hairless Sphynx. She is inquisitive, bashful at first but opened up quickly, very affectionate and playful. Beauty came to PCAS due to the unfortunate circumstance of her owner passing away. Beauty survived for three weeks until someone learned of the owner's death and came to the aid of the surviving pets. She blossomed into a healthy, happy feline during her stay at PCAS and was shortly adopted into a forever home.

Trixie Trixie

Meet Trixie. She was adopted in 2003 from Pasco Animal Services on Lake Patience Road. She has been a wonderful addition to the Yzaguirre househould since day one and life wouldn't be the same without her. She was adopted to provide companionship to not only the humans but also to an aging Weimaraner named Indy. They have become best buds and Indy's separation anxiety disappeared now that he has a fun and loving companion. Trixie and Indy were enrolled in training and Trixie excelled and went on from puppy to basic classes. She has become an important member and when introduced to a kitten, Trixie become the new kitten's new best friend. They can be found grooming one another from time to time! Please give a second chance to a shelter pet, you never know, you may just end up with a new best friend - the Yzaguirre's did!
